We got to bring Lucy home today
Lucy has returned home to us
We received news today that we could go pick up Lucy after the cremation. I am sure that most of the time this is done off-site by a special service, so waiting these nine long days actually wasn’t too bad when you consider what is going on in our part of the country today. With the Coronavirus lock-down taking effect in Washington beginning yesterday, I am counting us as lucky to have her back this soon.
I was steeling myself to having to wait much longer. Michelle and I had been losing sleep over this, we both confided to each other. I would wake up in the wee hours of the morning with the awful fear that this whole thing would get botched, and then we wouldn’t even get her back! What a horrible thought, but with the ever-tightening rules and work restrictions, who knows what the worst case scenario would have been.
It is so crazy here, we had to call into the vet office from the car outside in the parking lot. Then, the staff person came out to our car and hand delivered Lucy’s remains to us through the window. Again, thankful for that! What if we had not gone to a 24-hr vet emergency center? We would still be waiting, I am sure.
These are gut-wrenching experiences to go through, but I am now glad it is over although it will be quite a while until it is truly behind us. I am thankful for the Pet Emergency Vet Center, and I am thankful that nothing went wrong. A lot of things could have, and they didn’t!
When we have received the remains of our pets in the past, it has been a closing of a chapter. It doesn’t make the heartache go away, but it does seem to provide the closure to the worst part of the grieving process. We can rest a little easier now with the comforting thought that Lucy has come home.
